I hope you all have had a good start to this new year. I was sorry to hear of the passing of our friend and great Optimist, Harry White. Harry was a person who made a fantastic impact on the lives of the youth in British Columbia with his dedication to the Junior Golf Program. He will be sorely missed by his friends and the lives of the young people he dedicated his work to helping.
As we begin our 2nd Quarter, I would like to thank those members who have been out recruiting new members for their clubs. We are down 49 members in our district which is just a little over one member per club. We can make this up if we continue to look for new members. Remember, one of the requirements for Honor Club is to conduct a NOW (New Optimists Welcome or Wanted) recruitment. This does not have to be an elaborate event, it can be as easy as setting up a table at the events you already participate in. You just need to have someone sitting there answering questions about your club and inviting people to get involved in changing the lives of the children in your community. Each of us has a responsibility to make sure our clubs are growing so we can continue to Bring Out the Best in Kids.
I am looking forward to continue going to club meetings in the district and I am excited about the upcoming 2nd Quarter meetings on Feb 17th at Simon Fraser University, March 3rd at Wahooz in Meridian, and March 24th at St. Ignatius School in Portland. I always look forward to hearing what all the clubs are doing.
